How to buyGot to Be NC, the state directory, publishes this description: "David and Ann Marie Thornton began planting old Southern apple varieties in 2008-2009 and five years later James Creek Cider House became the first licensed farm winery/cidery in North Carolina making hard cider from estate-grown Southern heirloom and cider apples since Prohibition. These old-time apple varieties have deeper flavor and more tannins and give structure, depth and complexity to wine-like ciders. Now the Thorntons make about 15 distinct ciders under the James Creek Cider House and Stargazer Cider brand names, all from locally-grown North Carolina apples, and primarily old-time varieties such as Stayman, Limbertwig, Winesap, and Arkansas Black. These award-winning ciders are available at their tasting room in Cameron, at the Carrboro Farmers' Market, select restaurants and retailers in the Sandhills and the Triangle. Ciders can also be ordered online and shipped. The JCCH tasting room, with views of the peach and apple orchards, is a delightful place to sample and enjoy these ciders. Knowlegeable tasting room staff are accomplished at introducing 'newbies' to cider as well as helping cider lovers expand their palates with dry, complex wine-like ciders or sweet, fruity ones. Local cheeses and cured meats are available for purchase, and food trucks are on site most Friday and Saturdays. Live music adds to the atmosphere a couple times a month. Apples, peaches, blueberries and other fruits are available in season."
