📍 Buhler, KS

This is a small working lavender farm. All the plants are handled and harvested by hand, watered and weeded, carefully covered to protect from hard winter wind and weather, pruned and propagated, and enjoyed by many. Winter and the greenhouse go hand in hand. Starting Mid-September and again in early December, propagation fills the top shelves in the greenhouse. With the heater providing warmth inside, January is now time for the seed trays to appear! Many trays will fill the main shelves to start sprouting various species of lavender. Spring awakens the bees, and nudges the milkweed to start it's growth. Monarch and swallowtail caterpillars are often found munching their specific favorite plants grown just for them. Field lavender is cautiously uncovered from the winter blankets! From the greenhouse, tender lavender sprouts are transferred to outdoor shelves for their introduction to Kansas weather. There are gentle paths surrounding this small patch; walks can provide views of the lavender as well as wildflowers and wildlife. Bluebirds, butterflies, hummingbirds, quail and lizards are all common residents. Summertime brings busy times; the long awaited purple blooms appear, bouquets are picked, tinctures made, herbs picked, flowers dried, wand weaving classes tea parties and picnics held, and many 'talk and walk' tours happen. September is lavender plant trim time! And Fall can bring marshmallows roasting at the fire pit, occasional hay rides, even apple bobbing! Late November starts the preparations for winter plant protection. Covers are pulled over the lavender plants as they get carefully tucked in for a long winter's nap. Seedlings and lavender plant propagation all starts again. The adorable farm gift shop is open all year round on Thursdays and Saturdays - lavender gifts/products are available for purchase.
