Drawing on our agricultural upbringing and agronomy expertise, we embraced the challenge, determined to prove our colleague wrong. Embarking on an exploration of lavender cultivation, we planted diverse varieties in distinct test plots, employing various soil amendments and drainage solutions. Seeking guidance and education from lavender conferences and fellow farmers, we honed our approach. Through experimentation, we identified optimal practices tailored to our soil type. What began as a challenge evolved into a hobby and, in 2020, blossomed into a full-fledged business. Currently, our rural Owen County, Indiana property boasts 800 lavender plants of different varieties, encompassing both oil and culinary types. Our mission extends beyond cultivation; we aim to enlighten the public about lavender's growth intricacies and its physical and mental health benefits. Demonstrations held on our farm and at markets throughout the year serve as educational platforms. In addition to lavender cultivation, we craft a diverse array of lavender products, including cold press soaps, linen sprays, lotions, lip balms, sachets, and bundles to name a few. Collaborating with local maple syrup farmers and mead producers in our county, they incorporate our culinary lavender into delightful products they create and sell. At New Hope Lavender, we are committed to sharing the wonders of lavender cultivation and its holistic properties with the community."
